Political relations
Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Estonia were established on April 6, 1992. Embassies have been opened in both countries.
A working dialogue has been established between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Belarus and Estonia. In October 2009 Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Estonia U.Paet visited Belarus. The meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Belarus and Estonia was held during the 22nd meeting of the OSCE Ministerial Council (December 3, 2015, Belgrade).
On December 5, 2019 in Bratislava within the framework of the OSCE Ministerial Council the meeting of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus V.Makei with the Head of the Estonian Foreign Ministry U.Reinsalu was held.
In September 2021, on the sidelines of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, the meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus V.Makei and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Estonia E.-M.Liimets was held.
During the Estonian Presidency in the Council of the European Union, about 10 Belarusian official delegations visited Estonia (coordinated by the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Transport and Communications, the Ministry of Communications and Informatization, the Ministry of Economy, etc.), including the visit of the First Deputy Prime Minister V.Matyushevsky, during which he met with the Prime Minister of Estonia J.Ratas.
Interparliamentary and interregional contacts got a new dynamic.
Estonia's approaches to the development of political dialogue with Belarus are currently defined in line with the European Union's common position on Belarus. Increasing diplomatic, economic and informational pressure implied by the West on Belarus on the basis of far-fetched accusations had a negative impact on the dynamics and level of bilateral relations with Estonia in 2020-2023.
Belarus remains committed to mutually beneficial cooperation and constructive dialogue with Estonia on the basis of the principles of mutual respect and equality.
